Bradley Gordon

Bradley Gordon's was hands-down my favorite artist at the Double Decker Arts Festival in Oxford.
His work is eye catching and very bold.
I was literally drawn to it from across the Square.

All of his paintings are truly beautiful.

According to his website, he was born in Clarksdale, graduated from Ole Miss (Hotty Toddy Bradley!), and was a resident artist in Taichung City, Taiwan. He now lives in Oxford.

Sounds like a cool guy.

His subjects are not usually ones that I would want hanging on my wall...

But I would be VERY happy to have a piece of his work in my home!

Especially the black lab painting or the one that looks like Bambi.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Saw this one or a similar piece in person.
Absolutely gorgeous.
The peacock just happens to be the unofficial symbol of my fave band the String Cheese Incident :)

Love the Lab painting.
Wonder if he would paint Gus?

Love. Love. Love.

Here's a link to his Facebook.

I love supporting someone local and I hope you will too!

Kitchen Shower

I've mentioned several times that I am one of the hostesses for a shower at my house this Saturday afternoon.

It's for a very, dear friend of mine.
I am just THRILLED to be able to do this for her and meet all of her sweet friends along the way.

We used Flair by Mary Margaret Thiel for the invitations.
She is so reasonably priced, creative, and SO very nice to work with!
She also designed my blog.

As you can see, it's a kitchen shower so I thought I would share a little of my inspiration for the party. Thanks to all of the hostesses for helping so much! I really haven't had to do much except get my house ready.

I've hired Au Courant Floral to do the flowers and I couldn't be more excited to see what they create!

Here are a couple of pics of their fabulous work.

Love!

UM yeah! That's in a grove tent.
Pretty amazing.

I ordered a pretty runner from Etsy. These are a few that I liked.

from Etsy

also from Etsy

I've also ordered coordinating napkins from Caspari. Here are my faves...

I'll be sure to take a bunch of pics at the party so you can see how it all came together!
I don't want to give away too much ahead of time and spoil the fun for the Bride.

Skinny Turkey Meatloaf Cupcakes & Not-So-Skinny Mashed Potato Frosting

These are the cutest and most delicious little things I have ever made.
Perfect sized.
Great for portion control!

but...I change it up a little bit.

Here's what you need:
1 package of Ground Turkey
2 tablespoons of Onion, minced
1/2 cup of Seasoned Breadcrumbs
1/4 cup of Ketchup
1 Egg
1 tablespoon of Salt
Foil Muffin Tins

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

2. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, onion, breadcrumbs, ketchup, egg, and salt.

3. Thoroughly mix and combine with your hands.
*take your jewelry off*

4. Place the muffin tins into your pan.

5. Using a spoon or your hands, take a small amount of the meatloaf mixture and place into the foil tins.
Use a spoon to make sure that the tops of the "cupcakes" are flat and not too lumpy.

6. Pop them in the oven on 350 for 20 mins. After the timer goes off, turn the heat up to 400 degrees and cook them for 5-8 more minutes. This makes the tops of the "cupcakes" a little browned and crispy.

For the Mashed Potatoes:
A bag of Yukon Gold Potatoes
4 cloves of Garlic
2 tablespoons of fresh Thyme
Milk
Butter
Salt & Pepper

1. Start by washing, peeling, and chopping the potatoes into cubes.

2. Put the potatoes into a large pot. Submerge them in water and boil. After the water begins to boil, turn the heat down to a simmer, cover, and cook until they are fork tender. Then, drain them from the water.

3. Put the potatoes back into the pot and press the garlic into the pot or mince the garlic and then add it.

4. Add the thyme, a splash of milk, a half a stick of butter, salt, and pepper.

5. Grab a masher and start mashing!

6. I usually add more butter, just saying.

I usually start the potatoes first and have them boiling in the pot of water before I start the meatloaf cupcakes.

That way I am usually done mashing the potatoes right as the cupcakes are coming out of the oven.

I was in a hurry when I made this so I didn't frost the potatoes onto the cupcakes but it is super easy!

Take a small sized Ziploc, not a sandwich bag, and fill it halfway with the mashed potatoes.

Twist the top of the bag just like you would a bag of icing.

Cut one of the bottom corners of the bag off. Start with a small hole. You can always make it larger if you need to.

Keep twisting the top of the bag to give the potatoes some pressure to push out the corner and pipe it onto your meatloaf cupcakes.

It's too easy and it looks so cute!
These meatloaf cupcakes and mashed potato frosting are the perfect thing to serve at a dinner party.
Cook the meatloaf cupcakes and mashed potatoes ahead of time.
When it's time to eat, pipe the potato frosting on and pop them in the oven to heat up.
The potato frosting will brown slightly and look so yummy!

Monday's Must Have

k.slademade clutches & zip pouches

They are fabulous!

Perfect size!
Great color and print options!
AND
They are handmade!

Naturally, I want all of them.

This one is my fave. Perfect for a day in the Grove!
Unfortunately, it is out of stock right now!

These bags are becoming super popular, super fast.

The mint clutch is absolutely to die for. TDF.
The lining is suede. So perfect.

The pouches are a little bit smaller but you can have them monogrammed! Woohoo!!

A monogrammed pouch would make the perfect birthday, bridesmaid, or hostess gift.

Visit k.slademade's website here and facebook.

Hope y'all have a great week!

Tardy for the Party

In the next 9 days, we plan on...

Landscaping the front and back yard

Mmhmm dead serious this is what our yard looks like right now. Really cute.

Our patio is to be jacked up and then they're laying/extending the concrete patio.
This has to happen before they start the backyard landscaping.

See ya green AstroTurf stuff!

We are waiting on our FOURTH chandelier for this room.
1st one was a large oval pendant chandelier - wouldn't hang straight
2nd & 3rd one are the same chandelier I blogged about here.
The company sent me two chandeliers instead of one and the crystals were all a dark grey, smoke color.
No bueno.
The 4th one has been ordered but has not shipped yet.
Please pray that I have a chandelier in my house by next weekend.

Dining room table is still covered in blankets from when the electrician was hanging the grey chandelier. I wasn't here and just assumed it was the right color. By the time I got home, he was almost finished hanging the entire thing. I'm ignoring this room until I have a chandelier.

Waiting on monogrammed shower curtain and rod to be hung.

Trying to find a contractor to hang our heavy bathroom mirrors. Glass company came out today and said they couldn't do it. So now we're calling a contractor. Cross your fingers.

Oh yeah and our master bedroom. Not too much happening in there except that it flooded again on Monday. Good times.

It is what it is!
That's been our motto for 2012.

Did I mention I am one of the hostesses for a party AT MY HOUSE on June 16th?

Party-goers and my poor neighbors...please don't judge me. I'm 24 and I'm doing the best I can.
