Master Bedroom Update

So yeah...our master bedroom still looks like this.

Because of this

Ugh.

Moving on!

Here's the game plan:

1. Wait on flooring for another 6 months at least. We just fixed the flooding problem a few months ago. We DEF don't want to put down wood floors for the third time and have to rip them up for the third time.

3. New king size bed and headboard.

4. New bedding.

5. Rug & Drapes

6. Lamps & Decorative pieces

I'm still trying to get a handle on my color pallet before we make any purchases.

I think I have pretty much decided on a plain white headboard with nail head trim with blue and white fabrics  and maybe touches of gold, bronze, and burnt orange. (Not Florida gator orange)

Any recommendations on where to get a custom made headboard?

I've been looking around Jackson and online.

Found a couple reasonably priced headboards so far!

Here's what I'm liking for our bedroom:

love the headboard

love everything!

fave!

obsessed with blue and white fabrics. drapes maybe?

5 Things I Love

It's SO scary but it's so good. Wednesdays at 9 on FX.

This chair is fabulous. It's from Poplin & Queen's High Point Market pics.
I wanted to be there SO bad.
The pics on instagram from my fave bloggers were amazing. I can't imagine being there in person.
Die.

Absolutely obsessed with the Regalia dress from BHLDN

This "Pin" I came across that led to this article. SO SWEET.

"A child left his beloved stuffed giraffe, Joshie, behind at Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island. The boy was frantic, so his Dad told him Joshie was just taking a extended vacation. After calling the hotel to explain, he received a package in the mail days later. Inside was Joshie and a binder of photographs detailing his "vacation". The pictures were taken throughout the hotel and spa (pictured) and even with a security ID with his name and picture on it. Welcome home, Joshie. BRAVO, Ritz Carlton."

LOVE the dog paintings in this Danny Klimetz photo.

Easy Roast in a Crock Pot

This week was just one of those weeks where I didn't feel like going to the grocery store.
So I decided to clean out my freezer and refrigerator and to see what I could come up with.

I found a frozen round roast, potatoes, and carrots. BOOM. Roast in a crock pot!

I messaged my mom to get her recipe.
It's one of my favorite comfort foods and the perfect meal to come home to after months of traveling.

Here's what you need:
Flour
Some kind of roast.(I used a round roast)
Canola Oil
Russet potatoes
Baby carrots
Lipton's Onion Soup Mix
Salt
Pepper

1. Flour, salt, and pepper the rub on all sides.

2. Heat two tablespoons of Canola oil in a skillet. Brown the roast on all sides.

3. Place the roast into the crock pot. Cover in water and add Lipton's Onion Soup mix.

Cook on high for 4-6 hours.

4. A few hours before it's ready, add cubed Russet potatoes and baby carrots.

I serve my roast over rice and it is yummy!

This particular time, my roast didn't have a ton of seasoning.

Next time, I will add more spices to the flour, salt, and pepper mixture. I will also add two packets of Onion Soup mix instead one.

Bon appetit!

Goyard Love

Goyard bags are fabulous.

tumblr

It is safe to say that I have "Goyard Fever" as one blogger describes it.

I have been eyeing the Goyard St. Louis PM on blogs for a while.

BUT I saw one in person for the first time in Oxford for the Ole Miss-Texas Game.

It was orange and on the arm of a very well dressed Texas fan
but it was
  fabulous.

Of course, they are expensive and not easy to purchase if you live in the South.

So naturally, I have to have one.

Damsel in Dior has a few...

Jess from The Love List has one...

Catalina Su has a wallet and a bag...

and OF COURSE Gwenyth has one in my fave color. Damn you Gwenyth. You've got it all.

Even freaking Lizzie McGuire has Goyards.

So here's what I've learned from online research:

1. Ebay buyers beware! Several Goyard blogs and message boards warn that there are amazing Goyard fakes all over the internet. Apparently, it can be incredibly hard to distinguish between the fakes and the real Goyards.

2. You can customize your bag with stripes or a monogram. But also watch out here too. I've read that the customs details are painted on and will surely chip. Especially the white paint.

 3. Color is more expensive. The black and red bags are less expensive because they are stock pieces. Any other color is going to cost you extra.

4. Goyard pieces cannot be purchased offline. They are sold in Goyard stores and Barney's or you can purchase them over the phone by calling a Goyard store.

IF you are interested in a Goyard, I recommend this site. It's a Goyard section of the PurseForum

You can learn a lot from reading posts and there is even a section to post Goyard bags that are for sale on Ebay or similar sites. The PurseForum readers will help you verify it's authenticity. Score!

And if I am wrong on my Goyard info, PLEASE let me know.

I am beyond excited to be here at Susannah Styles! Not only do I adore Susannah’s blog, but I’ve been in her wonderful kitchen and know she is quite the chef (and hostess).

My name is Maggie and I blog over at SPICE about my culinary adventures and life after graduating from Ole Miss.  I am currently in my second to last phase of culinary school in Memphis. Thanks for letting me share one of my very favorites recipes on one of my very favorites blogs.

As far as I’m concerned it’s still grilling season. Yes it’s the middle of October and yes I pulled out my boots and Barbour this weekend, but it is still 80 degrees and football season, right?

I am about to share with you the very best burger recipe. Ever. I wouldn’t lie to you, I promise these are the best burgers you will ever put in your mouth. The coolest part is, you can make them at home. So get out your kitchen aid and fire up your grill, it’s time to house ground your own burgers.

Recipe adapted From Cook's Illustrated.
Makes 4 burgers.

INGREDIENTS
10
ounces sirloin steak tips , cut into 1-inch chunks (see note) or T-bone (what we use at the Giffin household)
6
ounces beef short ribs (boneless), cut into 1-inch chunks
Kosher salt and ground black pepper
1
 tablespoon unsalted butter
4
 hamburger buns , soft
4
 slices American cheese
thinly sliced onion

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Place beef chunks on baking sheet in single layer, leaving 1/2 inch of space around each chunk. Freeze meat until very firm and starting to harden around edges but still pliable, 15 to 25 minutes.

2. Meanwhile,  Ignite about 6 quarts (1 large chimney or about 6 pounds) charcoal and burn until coals are completely covered with thin coating of light gray ash, 20 to 30 minutes. Spread coals evenly over grill bottom, position grill rack above the coals, and heat until medium-hot (you can hold your hand 5 inches above grill surface for no longer than 3 or 4 seconds).

3. Using kitchen aid grinder attachment feed meat cubes through, being sure to alternate cuts, sprinkle with kosher salt along with way. After the meat is ground, mom lays beef on a 1/2 sheet tray, covers it, and then lays another 1/2 sheet on top and presses until the ground beef is fully flat and even (this ensures equal burgers). When your ready to grill, portion the patty’s. Grill to medium/medium rare and serve with toasted and buttered buns

Mom and I made these burgers a few weekends ago when I came home for a visit, we had our burgers with bacon-fat French fries, enjoy yours however you please and be prepared to eat more than one.

Monday's Must Have

That is a big, fancy name for this awesome hair dryer.

I don't have super thick hair but I have a ton of hair on my head.

I had been using a Chi hair dryer and it took me at least 10 minutes to dry my hair.

My sister got me the T3 hair dryer for my birthday.

It takes me at the most 5 minutes to dry my hair

AND

that little contraption at the end of the dryer helps to blow it out straighter and with less frizz.

As Heather on the RHONYC would say "Hollllaaaa!!!"

Sally also gave me the diffuser attachment because she knows our hair will break off if we straighten it every day.

Highly recommend this for curly headed people!

I asked my sister Sally what she does to her to get her curls so light and smooth.

Here is what she does and how I tried to copy her...

She starts with damp hair and adds Aveda Be Curly

Sorry about the pics! Cam wasn't around to help me.

Then she flips her entire head over and diffuses her hair upside down.

Next, she flips her hair back over and finishes with a little Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.

I flipped my hair back over and went back through with a small curling iron to fix the crazy curls around my face.

I highly recommend the T3 Bespoke hair dryer! It's SO fast, super light weight, and does a fabulous job!

Voila!
